I was interviewed on LIVE! In The Bay a few weeks ago and caught myself saying that podcast interviews are our chance to learn about you. This is definitely a fact and yet so often, you also hear me saying that a podcast pitch is NOT about you. It’s about the audience and the host. Am I sounding contradictory when I say it’s about you but it’s not about you?
Yes and no.
The podcast pitch should not be about you in the sense that it should be about the knowledge, education, inspiration and motivation that you’re going to bring to the listening audience. What will they gain from your interview? What are you going to bring to the table that no one else has or can? What steps did you take in your journey that has brought you to where you are today?
When I say the interview is about you, it is about your experience, your knowledge, your story, but it’s NOT about your product, book or service. This isn’t a time to sell whatever you have to hock. It’s a time for the audience to get to know YOU. Give of yourself as freely as possible, whether this is in your personal story and journey or if you have tangible tips people can utilize on their own. Be open and honest. People love hearing people, therefore if you share freely and honestly, listeners will fall in love with you. It’s like going on that first date and enjoying the other person so much that you want to go for a second date to learn more.
New Offerings
I’ve added a couple of new service offerings in the hopes that I can help as many of you as possible. My goal is to not only make podcast pitching and guesting accessible for everyone to do it but to also set the podcast industry standard when it comes to what is the right way to send a pitch, be a guest and share your interviews.

My Simplified Life Podcast
Three incredible women have been on my show in the past few weeks!
Dara Levan just launched It Could Be Worse. She had me texting her throughout the book asking how she knew parts of my life. Listen to hear how Dara incorporated her work as a speech therapist into her debut novel!
Meg Nocero is my kind of gal…a former federal prosecutor with ICE turn author, motivational speaker and empowerment coach. I am reading her Magical Guide To Bliss every single day! Meg shared how losing her mother and meeting Oprah changed the path of her life!
Have you seen the gorgeous pies that are book covers? Meet Stephanie Hockersmith…a dear friend and one of my favorite people on the planet. I discovered Steph when I read Unicorn Space by Eve Rodsky (she’s been on the show!) and told myself that when I have a book, the cover would be on a pie by Pie Lady Books. That’s exactly what happened and I was lucky enough to get to hear how Steph started her business and how it’s saved her life! It’s a must-listen!

Where I’ve Been…
I was interviewed on Manifesting with Meg…such a fun interview! We talked about romance, my career journey and what inspires me to do what I do.
It’s always a blast to get meet clients and virtual friends in real life. Last week, I had the pleasure of meeting Mary Jo Hoffman in person! Mary Jo and her beautiful daughter, Eva came over and we got to share a meal, enjoy wine and take book photos! Her book, STILL, is out May 1st and is the most beautiful book I’ve ever seen!
On the home front, we’ve wrapped up our month of birthdays (3 out of 4 kids have a March birthday) and had a lot of Scouting activities…fire station, Apple coding class, camping skits and selling Girl Scout cookies.
Keep sharing your stories and knowledge!
Great post! So true.
