My Pub Date Moved…
This morning I announced on Instagram and Threads that my book pub date has been moved…no, you won’t have to wait long to grab How To Get On Podcasts! In fact, two months from today, my book will be out…January 11, 2024!
Like all authors, I’ve been creating a plan for months. I have a Google doc that continues to grow with all I want to do, need to do and will do. It includes creating 100 tips for podcast guesting. Well, now that I have just 61 days, I’ll be reducing that to 50 tips! I have signings and a party already planned and am working on moving those dates as well.
I’ve asked around and it’s rare to have a pub date pushed forward by so much. There are two reasons as to why mine has moved. The first is that we are way ahead of schedule. The McGraw Hill team and I have beat every deadline we put in place and that’s what has allowed us to be prepared for this. The other is that as it’s been made public, McGraw Hill won’t be publishing business books going forward, therefore a lot of the amazing people I work with won’t be working there after the New Year. They’re putting in a lot of work to help get my book into your hands and I couldn’t be more appreciative of that.
Podcast Episode - How You Can Support Authors
I consider myself an author advocate and I did so well before I became an author myself. It not only takes a lot of work and dedication to write a book but it also takes a massive amount of vulnerability to announce to the world that something you wrote is out there to be purchased and read!
I try very hard to support authors, those who are clients, friends or have simply written something I adore. Now that I have the title of author, I have been reflecting on how my friends and strangers have supported me and how I’ve tried to support other authors. I recorded an episode on the ways that everyone can support authors, both free and by purchasing their book!
Ways include reviewing the book, recommending the book to your friends, sharing it on social media, pre-ordering and more. Trust me when I say that sharing an author’s work goes a long way for the author. When one of my clients shared my book on LinkedIn last week and said she pre-ordered it, I actually cried.
Veteran’s Day
Today is a day that we celebrate those who have fought for our country and thank them. It’s a day to reflect on the freedoms we have because of those who have been willing to be on the frontlines for you and me. My father was in the Army, my grandfather was a three star admiral in the Navy, my uncle was in the Navy and the navigator on the USS Nautilus that first went under the North Pole, my godfather was a Colonel in the Army, my cousin was a helicopter pilot in the Army (female!) my father-in-law fought in WWII in the Army…I am so grateful to be related to these people and to celebrat them today.
We’re heading to downtown San Jose to drive in our WWII Jeep and honor all Veterans. Thank you for your service!
I greatly appreciate your Podcasts, especially today's Podcast and Substack post. Authors, especially independent authors, need all the help they can get.
I am a retired 25 year veteran of both the Army and Coast Guard. About 2 years ago, at age 60, I started writing. First a Memoir and then a Children's Picture Book, which is a real hit with everyone who reads it. It currently has sixty 5-star reviews on Amazon! My 2nd Children's Books will be published on December 10th.
I have found that getting noticed in such a LARGE market is tough, especially when the Author lives on his military pension, and doesn't have a huge marketing budget.
Keep up your great Podcasts, and my best to you with your book!
