Happy Friday and Happy International Women’s Day! I wanted to share my Instagram post with you for today…
Happy International Women’s Day….this year the theme is inspiring inclusion. Here’s what that looks like for me...
It’s something I strive for every single day, not just today. Yes, it includes ensuring women have a seat at the table, hiring women, collaborating with women and promoting women, but all of that lacks something key…including women, not just being around them.
It’s the act of thinking of ALL women in what you do. That applies to business, everyday life and very much so when it comes to laws and rights.
Today is a perfect day to remember that women have only been able to get a business loan since 1988, women couldn’t serve on juries in all 50 states until 1973, you could be denied a credit card before 1974 if you were a woman, taking a leave of absence to give birth meant you could be replaced at your job until 1978, the rights to your body…well, we got those back in 1973 and then somehow lost them again in 2022 in a number of states.
Inspiring inclusion is the act of treating women as human beings that matter. It’s standing up for the rights of one another, no matter what. Inclusion is creating equal access to all. I believe that you can choose what is right for you, just as it is my right to choose what is right for me. That same right should be extended to every woman.
That is inclusion.
May we all learn to include one another in all we do.
Authors & Podcasts
This morning I was barely one cup of coffee in when I presented to the Women In Publishing Summit on creating a Podcast book Tour™ as an author. I absolutely love sharing with others how they can and should be showing up as podcast guests. I’m often asked how fiction authors can pitch themselves to be guests on podcasts and my answer is that you need to pitch yourself, not your book. We want to get to know YOU the author and person behind the beautiful words we are reading. I feel so strongly about this that I wrote an Instagram post about it as well!
Here are some questions I shared that you can ask yourself in order to come up with some topics to pitch…
Your Book - The Story Behind It
How did you come up with the plot? The setting?
Personal Story - What Have You Overcome?
Business Story - This Includes Career Pivots
Did you just wake up and were an author right out of high school or did you have an alternate career?
If you still have another career, how are you making time to write?
Knowledge You Can Share - Method/Framework, Skills, How To
Do you have a secret sauce of some sort that you can share?
Timely & Relevant - Relate To The News
What parts of YOU are in the book…this is one of my favorite questions to ask an author when I interview them. Share this part of yourself with a host and the audience.
My Simplified Life
I released two solo episodes and the live book event at Zibby’s Bookshop with KTLA’s Kirk Hawkins! You can listen to them all here!
